Shri Sumant Batra is a globally acclaimed insolvency lawyer, Distinguished Fellow at the Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs, and Visiting Professor at National Law University, Delhi. Ranked among the world’s top 30 restructuring lawyers by GRR— which also honoured him with its global “Outstanding Career” award—he is the only Indian International Fellow of the American College of Bankruptcy. As a senior consultant to the IMF, World Bank Group, OECD, and ADB, he has played a pivotal role in shaping insolvency reforms across multiple jurisdictions and is widely regarded as a key architect of India’s modern insolvency framework. A former and the youngest-ever Asian President of INSOL International, he also founded the Insolvency Law Academy, India’s first institution dedicated exclusively to scholarship and excellence in insolvency law.
