From the President’s Desk

In an evolving economic landscape, the effective resolution of financial distress has assumed growing significance in preserving enterprise value, protecting stakeholder interests and supporting sustainable economic growth. Within this changing landscape, the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, 2016 (IBC) has evolved significantly from its initial objective of consolidating insolvency laws into a comprehensive framework for early intervention, timely resolution, value preservation and sustainable revival of distressed enterprises. The IBC’s focus is progressively shifting from recovery of dues in isolation to preserving the going-concern value of viable businesses, facilitating efficient restructuring, enabling credible resolution plans and minimizing value erosion during the insolvency process.

Further, the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (Amendment) Act, 2026 marks an important advancement in India’s insolvency and valuation framework, with a stronger emphasis on timely resolution, value maximisation, transparency and sound commercial decision-making. The amendments strengthen the insolvency resolution process by enhancing the role and credibility of valuation in assessing distressed enterprises and supporting informed decisions by creditors and other stakeholders. By integrating a more robust valuation framework within the insolvency process, the amendments seek to facilitate better evaluation of resolution plans, informed restructuring and liquidation decisions, preservation of enterprise value and maximisation of stakeholder value, thereby reinforcing the IBC as a mechanism for effective resolution and value preservation rather than merely debt recovery. In this evolving framework, credible valuation, professional expertise and technology are increasingly important to achieving effective and sustainable resolution outcomes.

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) has remained a key institution in advancing India’s insolvency and valuation ecosystem by fostering professional competence, strengthening standards, and promoting integrity, consistency and market-oriented practices. Through the Insolvency, Bankruptcy and Valuation Standards Board (IB and VSB), ICAI continues to respond to the evolving needs of the profession by facilitating knowledge, building specialised capabilities, encouraging the adoption of global best practices and contributing to a more credible and efficient framework for insolvency resolution and valuation.

In continuation of these endeavours, ICAI, through its IB and VSB is pleased to present “RESOLVE-2026”, the 4th Edition of the International Convention on Insolvency Resolution and Valuation, to be hosted by the Western India Regional Council (WIRC) of ICAI on 8th-9th January 2027 in Mumbai. Building on the strong foundation established through RESOLVE-2023 in Singapore, RESOLVE-2024 in New Delhi and RESOLVE-2025 in Mumbai, the Convention has evolved into a significant international forum for thought leadership, professional exchange and cross-border engagement.

As the insolvency landscape becomes increasingly complex and interconnected, the need for robust valuation frameworks, informed stakeholder decision-making and professionals equipped with contemporary knowledge, technical expertise and sound professional judgement has assumed greater significance. The 4th Edition of the Convention will bring together key stakeholders from across the insolvency and valuation ecosystem including  the regulators, policymakers, the judiciary, insolvency professionals, registered valuers, legal and financial experts, academia, industry leaders and global practitioners to deliberate on the emerging contours of insolvency and valuation, including next-generation resolution frameworks, restructuring and turnaround strategies, valuation of complex and distressed assets, cross-border insolvency, technology-led processes, while encouraging innovative, technology-enabled and globally informed approaches to efficient, resilient and sustainable resolution, artificial intelligence and emerging sources of enterprise value.

RESOLVE-2026 represents ICAI’s continued commitment to professional excellence, global collaboration and the development of a credible, contemporary and future-ready insolvency and valuation ecosystem. The Convention seeks to contribute to shaping the next phase of insolvency resolution and valuation through knowledge, innovation, collaboration and professional excellence.

I am confident that the collective deliberations at RESOLVE-2026 will enrich professional discourse, strengthen stakeholder confidence and contribute to more transparent and value-oriented approaches to insolvency and valuation.

I look forward to this landmark Convention fostering meaningful dialogue and offering practical insights that supporting efficient and resilient insolvency and valuation practices, while contributing to sustainable resolution, revival and value creation in India and across jurisdictions.
