Before joining Essar, he held senior leadership roles at Vedanta, Dalmia Bharat, DLF, and JCB, where he managed complex legal, regulatory, and compliance mandates across India and international jurisdictions. Widely recognised for his expertise in litigation and arbitration, M&A, corporate governance, and risk management. Dr. Gemawat has been consistently ranked among India’s Top General Counsels by Forbes India, BusinessWorld, and other leading platforms. He has been honoured as one of India’s finest in-house counsels, named the “Most Influential Corporate Counsel and Company Secretary,” and inducted into the Global Hall of Fame for his contributions to the legal ecosystem. A postgraduate in law with a doctorate in insider trading, he is also a Chartered Accountant, Cost & Management Accountant, and Chartered Secretary in both India and the UK.
