Dr. T.K. Viswanathan, a Padma Shri awardee and former Secretary General of the Lok Sabha, is a distinguished legal scholar and policy expert with over four decades of contribution to legislative drafting, governance, academia, and public policy. Throughout his career, he has played a pivotal role in shaping several landmark laws, including the Information Technology Act, 2000; the Competition Act, 2002; the Right to Information Act, 2005; and the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, 2016. His work has had a lasting impact on India’s regulatory, economic, and governance frameworks. He currently serves as Director at the Pranab Mukherjee Foundation, is a member of the Independent Review Authority, and chairs SEBI’s Fair Market Committee, contributing to market integrity and regulatory reforms. Dr. Viswanathan has led several high-level committees, most notably chairing the Bankruptcy Law Reforms Committee, which drafted the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, and the Expert Committee on Cyber Laws. He has also held senior positions in the Government of India, including Secretary to the Union Government and Secretary, Legislative Department, where he oversaw critical legal and legislative functions.
